Una coalición de organizaciones ambientales demandó a la Agencia de Protección Ambiental (EPA) debido a que ha incumplido los mandatos de la Regla de Neblina Regional como prescribe la Ley de Aire Limpio.
Washington, DC - Today, a coalition of environmental organizations filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because it has failed to enforce the Regional Haze Rule as required by the Clean Air Act. Thirty-four states have yet to submit plans to reduce air pollution in our country’s most iconic national parks and wilderness areas, and return natural visibility to these wild places.
Today the Wisconsin Public Services Commission (PSC) approved the Koshkonong Solar Energy Center with two votes of support and one abstention. Koshkonong Solar Energy Center will add 300 megawatts (MW) of solar energy and 165 MW of battery storage to the energy grid, continuing Wisconsin’s much-needed transition to clean, renewable energy.
Dozens of organizations in the Tennessee Valley came together today to launch the Clean Up TVA Coalition, demanding immediate action from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to cut carbon emissions and transition to a fossil-fuel-free and just energy future by 2030.
Today, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) voted to approve WEC Energy Group’s proposal for a new fossil gas plant in Rothschild and Kronenwetter. The RICE (reciprocating internal combustion engines) proposal came after WEC’s announcement that they would move away from coal by 2035. The utility has refused to meaningfully consider alternatives such as distributed generation, demand response, storage and energy efficiency. This refusal to consider viable alternatives conflicts with Governor Evers’ climate commitments, particularly his Task Force on Climate Change’s recommendation that the state avoid all new fossil fuel infrastructure.
Portland, OR — Yesterday, Oregon’s Public Utility Commission (PUC) announced support of PacifiCorp’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to keep expensive and heavily-polluting coal plants powering Oregon communities for several more decades. This verbal vote to acknowledge the plan is expected to be formally approved in the coming weeks. PacifiCorp is the parent company of Pacific Power, which operates across Oregon, Washington, and California.
Trenton, NJ – Today, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) unanimously approved a petition by utility company Atlantic City Electric to modify the power purchase agreements for the Logan and Chambers coal-fired power plants, paving the way for retirement of the last two coal plants in New Jersey by the end of May. The owner of the plants, Starwood Energy, plans to decommission the plants and work with a clean energy developer to bring renewable energy projects to the sites.
Several faith, environmental, social justice and consumer advocacy groups have formed a coalition, Energy for All, in response to the widespread distress and hardship in our community caused by exorbitant CenterPoint bills and the utility’s intent to raise rates even more.
Little Rock, AR – Last Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Biden Administration’s proposed Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, which will protect Americans from dangerous cross-state air pollution from coal-burning power plants and other industrial sources in 26 states, including Arkansas.
New Orleans, LA – Last Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Biden Administration’s proposed Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, which will protect Americans from dangerous cross-state air pollution from coal-burning power plants and other industrial sources in 26 states. The announcement comes weeks after notice was given to Louisiana and 18 other states that their state implementation plans to curb pollution were not enough.
