On Feb. 14, the Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for rejecting the state government’s plan to reduce smog pollution that crosses into other states. The TX plan fails to require any air pollution reductions at all.

Speakers from environmental, public health, and community groups gathered outside the EPA Region 6 Office in Dallas and urged the agency to strengthen its federal rule on regional haze, a smoggy-like substance that forms when pollution, like sulfur dioxide from coal plants, mixes with other particles in the air.

St. Louis, MO -- Organizations are uniting to oppose Ameren Missouri’s proposed $316 million rate increase for its customers. More than 200,000 customers continue to struggle during the uneven economic recovery from the pandemic as Ameren’s profits soar. Ameren’s request for a rate increase with the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC), if approved, would add $12 per month for the average residential electric customer, including a $3 increase to fixed fees. Ameren seeks this rate increase as its net income was $990 million in 2021. 

The Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) approved the Appalachian Power Company’s (APCo) 2022 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) as reasonable for purposes of planning.

Duke Energy Progress customers won’t have to foot the entire cost of toxic coal ash cleanup after a settlement agreement between the Sierra Club and utility reduces the company’s request for an 18.9% residential bill increase and prevents Duke from making customers pay $50 million for coal ash basin closure costs.

Today, the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) made its final decision in Georgia Power’s 2022 rate case with a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Bubba McDonald opposing.
