About NC Beyond Coal

Everyone deserves access to affordable clean energy. North Carolina Beyond Coal works to close coal plants and replace them with renewable energy, which saves money and lives. We also fight for a just transition to clean energy that prioritizes Black and low-income communities disproportionately affected by coal pollution.
The North Carolina Beyond Coal Campaign is leading the clean energy revolution in North Carolina. Working with a diverse group of communities and partners, we work to retire coal plants and replace them with clean energy that saves money and lives.
- Retire the eight remaining coal plants in North Carolina by 2030. Six of the largest, most expensive, and most polluting coal plants are owned by Duke Energy. Learn more about the cost of Duke's coal plants.
- Replace coal with clean energy. We can close Duke’s entire coal fleet today, replace it with solar and wind energy, and still provide year-round reliability while saving customers billions.
- No new gas plants. We don’t need to build any more fracked gas plants or pipelines. North Carolina already is second in the nation in solar development and has the best offshore wind resources in the East.
- End racial and class disparities in energy burden and pollution. We promote clean, renewable, community-based energy solutions and a just transition that uplifts frontline communities across the state.
Join the clean energy revolution in North Carolina.
