Energy Policy in Indiana

Energy Policy in Indiana

Join the Road to Renewable Energy network and move state policymakers towards a renewable energy future.

We envision an Indiana that is fossil fuel-free and powered by renewable energy, with a clean energy economy where workers are free to unionize, valued for their work, and guaranteed a living wage irrespective of their occupations or employers. We want an Indiana where we have energy policies determined democratically and democratic accountability at all levels of government.

In recent years utilities and fossil fuel interests have:

  • Supported pro coal candidates.
  • Pushed legislation to halt renewable energy projects including passing legislation that effectively delaying coal retirements and an attempted ban on renewable energy - which was lobbied for by disgraced former EPA administrator Scott Pruitt.
  • Established an Energy Task Force and packed it with fossil fuel interests.
  • Intervened in cases before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to try to stop coal retirements.
  • Rolled back fair credit for rooftop solar.
  • Eliminated Indiana’s Energy Savings Program which helped Hoosiers make their homes more energy-efficient.
  • Reduced public oversight of utility spending and bill increases.
  • Ignored needs of coal communities facing economic and career disruption.

We’ve been making progress in our journey to 100% renewable energy, but need your help to continue this effort.
